Our bathroom is finally complete. I know I never thought I would utter those words and I’m sure you didn’t either. As I hope some of you saw, little ole Out of Square was featured on Kara Paslay Design earlier this week and I used that opportunity to debut our bathroom. If you missed it, here is a little peak about what I shared.
The devestating before.
The beautiful after.
So what do you think? Did we hit it out of the park?! Ok, if your response is no, then don’t answer. I like living in my little bubble of bathroom love. We are so proud of all the blood, sweat, and tears that went into the darn thing. We were able to DIY the entire thing. From the vanity, to tile, to reglazing the tub. All done with our own two hands. I’m not sure that you want to hear all the laborious details but if you do, just give me a shout. I’m always happy to share!
Since I did receive a few questions regarding where some of our items in the bathroom came from, I figured I would follow up my guest post with a nice little source list. Here are the ins and outs of our bathroom:
-

-

-
Shower Curtain: White Xtra Long Waffle Curtain, Amazon.com

And here are a few more pictures just for the fun of it. Enjoy!

Very nice! I love the dark tile floor and the use of the dead space over the toilet – so cool to put a towel rack there. Out of the park!

Love your bathroom. I love the subway tile… thats what we will be doing with our bathroom [right now it’s just a beigy color tile]. It really looks great with the window, which is nice to see because our shower also has a window in it. 🙂

Danielle Blundell
Hi,
My name is Danielle Blundell, and I am an assistant editor at This Old House magazine. I really love the look of your bath and was wondering whether you had a breakdown of the cost? I scout for our Budget Redo column, and since you did so much of the work yourselves, I was hoping you might have cut some corners cost-wise. Looking forward to hearing from you.
Thanks!
Danielle

We just moved into our 1920s home. The bathroom needs to be renovated, but we joke that maybe in year five. We have a window in the shower too and the same shaped tub. We do need to address the rotten wood that they simply kept caulking! Any hints? Also, how to keep in dry once it is fixed. The challenge is that it is our only bathroom. FYI Your bathroom is on our inspiration board!

Michelle – Thanks for stopping by and I always blush when I hear that I inspired someone. 🙂 The most important part of renovating your bathroom will be to replace the rotten wood and keep it from rotting again. Is is the actually framing that rotted or just the window sill/casing? If you are worried about the framing rotting again then check out the extra steps we took in this post. Specifically the moisture/mildew resistant backerboard (which comes in a blue color if that helps) and then the redgard which covers all the joints for added protection. If you have any other specific questions, please feel free to ask! Good luck!
